Mayor rules out accident, meets DIG seeking thorough probe
BHOPAL: Chhola Mandir police have registered FIR against unknown persons in connection with fire at Bhanpur landfill, even as smoke billows from the burning garbage even after 72 hours of the incident. On Thursday, Mayor Alok Sharma along with BMC commissioner Priyanka Das and additional commissioner met DIG Dharmendra Choudhary and handed over a memorandum seeking registration of FIR in connection with the blaze at the landfill and thorough probe into the incident.
The DIG later confirmed that FIR has been registered against unidentified persons for the fire at Bhanpur landfill. Over 25 fire engines were rushed to the spot to contain the fire. Toxic plastic and oil residue that caught the fire led to a significant drop in air quality. Claiming that it was not accident, Mayor said that the civic body officials spotted fire at as many as 24 locations on the site on Monday. It suggests that the closed garbage dumping site was deliberately set on fire therefore police should carry out proper probe in the case, he added.
