BHOPAL: Union water resources minister Uma Bharati does not agree with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s decision to bar ministers from using red beacons atop their vehicles. The UP chief minister has made this announcement on the lines of his Punjab counterpart.

Uma believes that minister should be allowed to use beacon while going on official work. She further said that traffic should be stopped and flights delayed for the minister. However, if a minister is on a private trip then these privileges should not be utilised.

Addressing a press conference at her residence here on Sunday, Bharati said that the BJP has always favoured small states. Stating that people residing in Bundelkhand region of MP were against a separate state, she suggested that Bundelkhand state be carved out of UP only. Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for victory in UP assembly elections, she said that opposition had been decimated in the entire country. She cautioned that the current political situation has put more responsibility on the BJP. She also appreciated the decision of appointing Adityanath as UP CM.

Bharati said that Shivraj Singh Chouhan would form the government in the state again and the BJP would win 175 seats in the next elections. She said that the BJP should contest elections in MP under the leadership of Chouhan.

Declares serving IRS officer as her political successor!

Earlier, addressing a function to commemorate Avanti Bai Lodhi, Bharati said that Lokesh Kumar Lihare would be her political successor. Lihare, an IRS officer of 2006 batch, is presently OSD to her. He is a deputy secretary-level officer of the Government of India. “Lihare was the first person to suggest to me that I should rejoin the BJP. He is young but has a vision”, she said. She also repeated once again that it was her hard work that had brought the BJP to power in the state in 2003.
