RATLAM: Congress candidate and sitting MP from Ratlam-Jhabua parliamentary seat Kantilal Bhuria faced protest when he reached Surana village in Ratlam Rural assembly segment. The villagers told him that many of his promises remain unfulfilled.  According to information, Bhuria reached Surana village along with district Congress president Rajesh Bharawa and supporters. The villagers pointed out at dilapidated roads and said Sanskritik Bhawan has not been constructed despite several reminders.

They also reminded him that farmers’ loans have not been waived off as promised. Bhuria who stayed for 20 minutes in the village could not give satisfactory answers to their questions. During his earlier visits, Bhuria had assured to fulfill all their demands.  Bhuria who commenced campaigning three weeks back appears to have realised that it would be no cakewalk victory for him this time.

As for BJP, it plans to commence poll campaign soon as the name Jhabua MLA Guman Singh Damor has been announced from Ratlam-Jhabua parliamentary seat. BJP sources said Damor will commence poll campaign from Ratlam district, Jhabua and Alirajpur district simultaneously.

Ratlam-Jhabua parliamentary seat has eight assembly segments. Ratlam district’s Ratlam city, Ratlam rural and Sailana have strong BJP presence. In Jhabua district’s Jhabua, Petlawad and Thandla assembly seats, the BJP has improved its hold as was visible in 2018 when BJP won Jhabua assembly seat by defeating Congress candidate Dr Vikrant Bhuria son of Kantilal Bhuria.

In Thandla and Petlawad, Congress has an edge over BJP. In Alirajpur district’s Alirajpur and Jobat segments too, BJP is in a position to pose challenge to Congress.  Lack of development and basic amenities, unemployment are major issues, which both parties have failed to address adequately in the region. While Bhuria faces anti incumbency, BJP cannot draw benefit from popular image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as tribals want local development.
