BHOPAL: Government Railway Police (GRP), on Thursday, busted a six-member gang involved in 30 robberies and thefts and recovered valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from their possession.
GRP SP Tusharkant Vidhayarthi, while speaking with the media persons said, “The main accused Jonty alias Sonu Panthi of Bhopal was nabbed by the police while later his five accomplices Puspendra Dangi of Sagar, Om Prakash Bhadoria of Itarsi, Deepak alias Panthi alias Paniyal, Deepak alias Bhura and Ravi Rai of Itarsi were arrested by GRP.”
Ten gold chains, three pairs of gold ear rings, one pair of silver anklets, one pair silver toe rings, silver coins, five laptops, seven mobile phones and Rs 1.1 lakh in cash were recovered. A scooter that was brought from the robbed money was also recovered from the gang.
The gang members were involved in thefts and robbery for the past two years. They used to commit crimes in moving trains and would get down near railway stations where the trains decelerated. Passengers of sleeper coaches were targetted by the gang members.
Meanwhile three miscreants involved in targeting passengers standing near door at Budhni Ghat section were nabbed by GRP Habibganj, which recovered 20 mobile phones from their possession.
The gang leader Omprakash alias Chinu and his two accomplices Shaikh Rehman and Aniket alias Raja were nabbed and recovered valuables worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
