Bhopal: The much-awaited movie ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ was released in all single-screen film theatres and multiplexes in the city on Friday. Based on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a government campaign to improve the sanitation conditions in the country, with an emphasis on the eradication of open defecation, especially in rural areas, the satire has mostly been shot in MP, mainly Sehore and Hoshangabad. The movie has also been shot in Mathura and Mumbai.

The film is directed by Narayan Singh and written by Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal. Co-produced by Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey, the film stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles, with Anupam Kher and Sana Khan in supporting roles. A filmmaker named Praveen Vyas has sent a legal notice to the makers, claiming that ‘Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’ has plagiarised scenes and dialogues from his documentary ‘Manini’, also based on the same subject.

Akshay Kumar dug a toilet in the state to promote the film. The movie trailer was released on June 11. PM Modi called it a good effort to further the message of cleanliness. Saurabh Saxena, a theatre actor said, “It is an awesome and meaningful movie. The subject is quite different from others. It is in fact mass oriented subject which sends out the message of cleaniless. Some scenes in the movie have been shot in Hoshangabad and it highlights its natural beauty brilliantly.”

“The cinematography of the movie is also perfect. Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar both did justice with their roles,” he added.
“Some artists of MP have also done a great job,” Saxena added.

BEd student Vimla singh said,“It is a very nice movie. It sends out social message too. It highlights what kind of problems people, mostly women, face due to lack of toilet. I am sure, the movie will help to create good image of our country. I will give five out of five.”

“Bahot Shandar movie hai…. Everything from the story, acting to direction is perfect. The movie not only entertains us but also sends out a social message. It is good initiative to motivate people to build toilet,” said Devendra Pahade.
