Bhopal: Governor Anandiben Patel, addressing on the conclusion of a programme titled ‘Saksham-2019’ here on Friday, said it was every citizen’s responsibility to effectively conserve fuel and energy. The programme was organised under the joint aegis of Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, Gas Authority of India Limited and Indian Oil.
Governor said our country is dependent on import of petrol as 80 per cent of its consumption is imported from other countries, which creates financial burden on our country. She said there is a need to develop balance between the interests of producers and consumers.
Governor said not only the oil companies but all should ponder over ways of proper use of petroleum products. Governor , appreciating the conduct of the month-long conservation festival, said such efforts would boost energy conservation and it would increase awareness. Citizens would understand their responsibilities towards saving of fuel.
Indian Oil state coordinator B.Satish Kumar said around 50,000 persons took part in bicycle rally at Indore on January 27 and created a world record. The event is conducted every year for a month and activities like painting competition, debates, cycle rallies, car rallies and quizzes are conducted to create awareness towards fuel conservation. Governor also presented mementos and certificates to the winners of debate and painting competitions organised across the state. Petroleum Conservation Research Association director general SK Haldhar also gave a presentation.
