Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cyber cell police staff have arrested three men from Haryana and Rajasthan who were involved in what police call “sextortion racket”. The cyber cell informed media about their arrest on Friday. The accused have been identified as Waseem, a resident of Haryana, and Purushottam and Yadaram - both from Rajasthan
The action was taken on complaint filed by a local resident. The police now claim that accused have extorted money from more than 120 people. The victims refrain from visiting police due to fear of their family and society.
The accused would lure victims using images of girls and would initiate sex chat with them. The accused would tactfully show them the girl removing her clothes and ask victims to strip. They would save videos and later use clips to blackmail victims and demand anything above Rs 10,000, said police.
A Bhopal based complainant told police that he had deposited money into the account given by accused but they demanded extra money. Police when investigated the case traced the accused to Haryana and Rajasthan. Police said the accused have extorted money from victims in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Haryana.
The police team found transaction record of over Rs 60 lakh and they are now searching for the other victims.
