Bhopal: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, without citing former Chief minister Digvijay Singh, made an attack on the latter over Narmada river. Speaking during ‘Jan Sansad’ organised on the banks of river Kolans in Sehore district on Monday, he said that those who never worked for river conservation are now doing politics on Narmada.
He said some persons are raising questions on his Narmada Yatra and also on the saplings planted on the banks of Narmada. Chouhan said these people should go and see the number of plants there. He claimed that liquor shops have been removed and mixing of contaminated water at several places has been stopped. However he said obstacles come in the way of good work too. He said one should not to worry about what people will say. He said that the government cannot do this work alone and the society must join the initiative.
Mahaabhiyaan for groundwater, Mahavriksharopan Abhiyaan soon Chouhan said the ground-water level has been constantly declining. A ‘Mahaabhiyaan’ will be launched for water conservation and replenishment with public support across the state. Deepening of old lakes and rivers would be done. Rs 500 crore will be spent for the digging-up new lakes.
CM said man has made irrational utilization of natural resources in its race for industrialization and desire for materialism. The temperature of earth’s surface is rising which would increase by 2 degrees by 2050, resulting in melting of glaciers, rise of sea water-level and coming of flood. ‘Mahavriksharopan Abhiyaan’ would be launched from July 15 to August 30.
