Bhopal: Some thieves targeted two unguarded ATMs on Tuesday night and managed to take way over Rs 4.5 lakh from one of the machines. Their attempt to break open the second ATM proved futile as they failed to get access to the cash box.
Interestingly, the CCTV camera at one of the kiosks was already stolen and hence no footage of the incident could be provided to the police. Police said that miscreants targeted ATM machine of Union bank of India (UBI) located at Khajuri Sadak area at Bhopal-Indore road past midnight. According to ASP (Zone 4 ) Sanjay Sahu, the ATM was targeted by thieves between 12 am and 6 am when the public movement was almost negligible. The ATM kiosk was sans CCTV camera and it seems that thieves were aware of the fact, said Sahu. Things became much earlier for them as there was no security guard at the kiosk, he added. The total cash at the ATM was around Rs 4.78 lakh which was taken by the thieves, added Sahu.Police are looking for CCTV cameras around the area to get any clue, said the police officer.

The thieves cut open the wires but they failed get access to the cash box. In the morning, when the bank staff was informed that the ATM was not working, they on checking found that some tempering was done with the machine.
