Bhopal: BJP won another battle, with the win of saffron clad Sadhvi Pragya Thakur from Bhopal in a month long high stakes campaign. Though BJP earned heat after fielding Malegaon bomb blast accused Pragya but BJP president Amit Shah termed it as BJP’s satyagraha against saffron terror term coined by Congress. Pragya Thakur, won Bhopal seat by a huge margin of 3,64,822 votes crushing Digvijaya’s hope to enter Lok Sabha from Bhopal- a BJP bastion since 1989. “It is a victory of dharma over adharma. I thank them (voters) for reposing faith in me,” said Prgaya after win.
Pragya had courted controversy, first with her statement that former ATS chief Hemant Karkare died because of her curse. Later she also said that she was proud of demolishing Babri mosque. Election Commission went on to ban her for 72 hours- barring her from any public meeting or campaign. Most embarrassing moment for BJP was when she termed Godse a patriot. Her statement earned much criticism and even PM Modi said that he would never pardon her. Ultimately she was forced to apologise after pressure from senior BJP leaders.
