BHOPAL: A 55-year-old unmarried priest was electrocuted on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. As per police sources, Rajesh Tiwari alias Ramdas, 55, who hailed from Seoni, was a priest in Ram Janki temple, Ashoka Garden for the last five years. He lived in a cottage on the temple premises.
He came in contact with electricity current and died when he touched the iron gate. He was drawing electricity in his hut on temple premises directly from pole.
However, as per sources, earlier there was a well for water supply in old Ashoka Garden. So electricity connection was also provided to pump water. But after Narmada water supply started, entire system was in state of neglect by Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). Current spread all over the iron gates with spell of rain and hailstorm. When Ramdas pujari touched the Iron Gate in night, he came in contact with electric shock. In morning, sweeper noticed him and informed others and then it was clarified that pujari was dead.
SHO Virendra Singh Chouhan said, “We are making probe but prima facie it seems that Tiwari was drawing electricity directly from pole so in morning current spread in his cottage. When he touched the gate in the morning, he came in contact with electric current.”
