BHOPAL: The sweeping machines procured from Germany, to sweep the streets of the city are yet to start operations. The required permission from regional transport office (RTO) has stuck the process. In case, the machines are not used soon, the cleanliness survey for the year would begin and the reason for paying a hefty sum for sweeping the streets would be nullified. The smart city development corporation limited (BSCDCL) has awarded the contract of running these machines in the city to a private company.

The BSCDCL will pay Rs 30 crore in these five years to the company for running the machines and the contract will also be withdrawn in case the company fails to deliver excellent work. These machines were put to demonstration at link road number 1, on December 27. These machines would sprinkle water that will prevent dust from rising and the dividers would also be cleaned with it as these high-tech machines are equipped with such features. The BSCDCL however has failed to procure required permission from RTO to run the machines on streets and even after over two weeks, the machines remain unutilised. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner B Vijay Dutta when contacted said that we have sought permission for operating the machines in the city from RTO. Once we get the permission the machines will be deployed for cleaning streets.
