Bhopal: Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has asked former minister Surendra Patwa to surrender his passport in connection with bank recovery. The court has passed the order on Thursday. Bank of Baroda (BoB) has to recover Rs38 crore from M/s Patwa Automotive Private Limited owned by former minister Surendra Patwa.
The Bank has filed the petition to declare Patwa wilful defaulter. However, the advocates, who appeared for Patwa, argued that as the proceeding is pending before the Debt Recovery Tribunal, it is not a matter of present petition. The court also clarified that no coercive action would be taken against petitioner.
But, the BoB shall be free to proceed with recovery proceedings. Advocate Abhay Dhandokar, who appeared for the state, said, “High Court has instructed Patwa to surrender passport. Once he surrenders his passport then the court will take further action in the matter.”
