BHOPAL: The progress report of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the state is much behind its target. Till date only 11,170 villages have been declared open defecation free (ODF), out of 51,741 villages of the state.
Government of India started ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ from October 2, 2014 and had set the target to construct sanitation complexes for the common use and latrines for the houses, till October 2, 2019. In the state 51,741 villages and 23,010 village panchayats are present, and till December 2016, only 4,797 village panchayats and 11,170 have been declared ODF. Still 40,571 villages are waiting to get attention.
Interestingly, the state rural development department has planned to construct 145 sanitation complexes in the state, during the financial year 2016-17, but 144 sanitation complexes are constructed in Ujjain and one in Raisen.
No job under MGNREGS
In the state over 61 lakh job card holders of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) are present, but only 44,90,000 card holders are able to get employment. The rising migration from rural areas reflect that the labourers are not getting employment in villages and also those working, are getting their wages too late.
Only seven of 157 play grounds ready
In 13th Finance Commission, under the performance grant, 157 sports grounds were selected for the rural government schools and Rs 146.36 crore were sanctioned. But till December 2016, only seven grounds were able to get completed, the rest are under construction.
