Bhopal: If you have fallen prey to cyber bullies and now have lodged a complaint with cyber cell, you may or may not receive the amount which has been deducted from your bank account.
The Bhopal cyber cell has yet to connect the dots in a recent case in which a man was duped on the pretext of getting a job. He was made to deposit money in a bank account which was opened as a result of a rent agreement. Since that the agreement was made in Bangalore, the cyber cops reached there but did not find the address and are now planning to move to Mizoram where the accused showed his permanent address. “We have staff crunch which is why the probe gets delayed,” said a cell officer Chandrakant Patidar.
This is not the only case wherein the cyber cell has failed to receive assistance from the banks and the probe in turn has adversely affected the victim. Staff crunch, lack of support from banks and other such issues hinder probe by cyber cell.
“If the crime is reported on second or last Friday of the month then we fail to get the statement of the transaction from the bank until the next working day which affects our probe,” said cyber cell SP Shailendra Singh Chouhan. “Without bank statement, we fail to find the other party with whom we should communicate,” he added.
He also said that unclear footage provided by ATM is also a hindrance. This is because they show unauthorised transactions are carried out by people whose faces remain covered with helmets or muffler. This creates difficulty in identifying them. He also mentioned other difficulties like one time password (OTP) not displayed on complainant’s mobile phone.
A Union Bank of India official said, “We are planning to frame a proposal and send it to our head office that we should provide bank statement whenever asked, which will be a big relief to people who have become victims of cyber fraud.”
A security officer in another bank says that there is no such technology, which can stop a person from carrying out transactions with helmets on. “The face recognition technique is expensive and is hardly used by any bank in India,” he added.
