An elderly couple was crushed to death by a speeding car on early Thursday morning. The couple, who used to run a stall near Kaliyasot, was rolling their hand cart when a car driven by a woman rammed them. The woman and man accompanying her fled from the accident spot leaving the car behind.
The deceased have been identified as Hazarilal Mehra, 50 and his wife Vimla Mehra, 45, residents of Ishwar Nagar under Chunabhatti police station. A relative of the couple, who was also passing from area, said the car, sans registration number, was coming from Excellence College side at a very high speed. The impact of the collision was so intense that the couple flung into the air and fell on the opposite direction.
Locals called police and rushed the couple to hospital, however, the doctors declared them brought dead. The bodies were later sent for postmortem. Chunabhatti SHO Bharat Singh Thakur said that the car has been seized and a case registered against unknown persons. The car carried a temporary registration number of Indore and a team will be sent to ascertain the identity of the accused, he said. Thakur informed that accused had left a mobile phone in the car and it will be sent to the forensic team for further examination.
