BHOPAL: A 3-day 41st Foundation Day celebrations of IGRMS concluded with rocking performance by Somersault Band on Thursday. The band who performed for the first time in the City of Lakes, giving enthralling performance of transfusion of Khasi folk and Rock music. The band has recently collaborated with Bollywood film makers in production of Rock On 2. It has been part of unplug live videos, national tours, school tours, TV, radio live shows and Indian film Industry.
Prior to this, traditional artists from Meghalaya started off with Garo tribal artists performing – Doroa folklore of unwritten stories and proverbs, riddles and songs derived from cultural practices. The second performance was Ahaia, a folklore recitation. In the next performance Khasi tribal artists performed Shad Skain, a ritual dance performed before entering a newly constructed house. Besides, as part of 41st Foundation Day celebrations the rituals of Maw-Bu-Khar sacred groves of Meghalaya was carried out on its premises. Bhopalites enjoyed all three cuisines of three main hills – Garo, Khasi and Jaintia of Meghalaya a lot under ‘food festival’. An exhibition on ‘Naga Memoirs – Narrating the Cult of Fertility’ was inaugurated at Veethi Sankul indoor exhibition building by renowned anthropologist Ajit K Danda.
