Bhopal: The slaughterhouse in the city will now be shifted to a new area. The national green tribunal (NGT) had recently reprimanded the civic body on the issue. The rules governing the operation of the new slaughterhouse will also undergo amendment.
In the Bhopal Municipal Council meet at ISBT, the corporators raised their objection on the slaughterhouse terming it to be the market of meat, said that the slaughterhouse will be harmful for the nature. The congress corporators had already boycotted the council meet and only 40 corporators from ruling BJP and Mayor Alok Sharma were in the house when chairman announced the shifting.
Separate DPR for abattoir
Chairperson Surjeet Singh Chouhan announced that the slaughterhouse has to be built in new form with new DPR and that the amount of meat which will be slaughtered there would have to be supplied only within the city and the export of meat from the city’s slaughterhouse will not be allowed.
Ruckus, walkouts affect work
The council meet started after 1.5hours of the schedule and leader of opposition raised questions of diesel tanker scam. Leader of opposition in the council Mohammad Sageer allegedly made derogatory remarks on BJP corporator Tulsa Verma after which she sat on the floor of the house.
After the issue, the BJP corporators also staged a protest and then the chairman suspended the meet. As the meet resumed after five minutes the congress corporators also staged a protest against the delay in the working of the council. They also said that the time of media and theirs is important and that the delay is affecting their lives. The chairman again suspended the meet for ten minutes and then after the meet resumed, the congress corporators again created ruckus saying that the time is consumed in non sense.
They later staged a walkout and then the BJP corporators unanimously consented on the fine to be imposed on building material found outside the under construction house. They then raised the issue of slaughterhouse which is likely to affect the nature and then they raised objections on it.
Residents of Adampur stage protest
A group of people from Adampur staged a protest against their area to be used for abattoir. They were saying that their land has a temple and that the slaughterhouse will be an affront to their faith hence they will not allow the civic body for it.
