Bhopal: Shivraj, three other MLAs BJP choice for LS polls

Bhopal: Learning its lessons from the electoral setback in the State, BJP is leaving nothing to chance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In a national-level survey being conducted by the party for the general elections, names of MLAs have come up from four LS constituencies in the state.

The party to ensure its victory, may field these MLAs in the LS polls. With former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan becoming national vice president of the party, it is taken as certain that he would be given ticket from Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency.

The sitting MP and union minister Sushma Swaraj had earlier announced not to contest elections. Chouhan, is the best person in the party here to retain the seat in the BJP fold, conveniently. The survey too has backed Chouhan’s candidature for Vidisha.

For Rewa, name of former minister Rajendra Shukla has come up in the survey as there is huge resentment against the sitting MP Janardan Mishra. In the last general election too, Shukla was given offers to contest but he refused. The party may go with the survey report and field Shukla this time.

Former minister from Gwalior and MLA from Shivpuri, Yashodhara Raje Scindia’s name is also being discussed for the Gwalior seat. Raje had represented the Lok Sabha constituency earlier. Political pundits believe that sitting MP and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar is not in safe zone in his constituency and only Raje can win the this seat this time.

The survey does not give satisfactory report of Betul MP Jyoti Dhurvey. Former minister and MLA from Harsud Vijay Shah’s name is coming up for the seat. BJP does not have many options here as the seat is reserved for scheduled tribe. MLA from Vijayraghavgarh and former minister Sanjay Pathak is also said to be interested in contesting Lok Sabha polls. He is keen on contesting the polls from Khajuraho seat. The sitting MP Nagendra Singh had contested Assembly election from Nagod and won the seat. With BJP MLAs contesting Lok Sabha polls, state Congress government will take a sigh of relief which always have a fear of its MLA being enticed as the BJP already has 109 MLAs in the assembly.
