BHOPAL: While the shopkeepers and traders are c omplaining that their business is suffering due to shortage of low denomination notes, the people say that they are finding it difficult to carry Rs 20 and Rs 10 notes and Rs 10 coins in bulk.

Free Press Journal visited New Market in the city and talk to shopkeepers and people to know their problems.

Ashok Singh, Mahalaxmi Garments

Bahot Jyada asar pada hai madam. Change ki bahut dikkat hai. Our business is down by 50 per cent. Earlier at least 25 customers used to visit daily but now barely four do.

Nitin Ahuja , Ahuja Punjab Dairy and Sweets, New Market

Yes, we are facing a huge problem of change. The people are making only limited purchases. We are also hiring less staff. Notebandi ki wajah se hamare business par bahut bura asar pada hai. Minimum 60 per cent asar pada hai. It can’t be made up unless more money is pushed into the market.

Hariom Shukla, Durga Aata Chakki, Malviya Nagar

Problem to bahut hai. It started from November 10. Our turnover is down by 60 per cent. Often, customers come to us with either Rs 500 or Rs 2000 note for which we can’t give change. I am 36 and in my life I have never seen such a problem in my life. I think the government should have invalidated old currency after pumping enough notes of Rs 100 into the market. Also, we are fed up of daily changes in rules. Purchase A to Z sab band ho gaya hai. It is great loss, especially for small businessman.

Sudhindra Sinlkari, Venus Studio, T.T. Nagar

Yes, we a facing great problem of change. Overall, our business has fallen by 50 per cent due to this problem. Most of customers don’t get passport size photos snapped due to lack of change. In this situation we have only option that we give pictures to them on credit and wait for them to make the payment. Abhi bhi hum in photographs  ke  malikon ka intejar  kar rahe hai…

Saurabh Sahu, Mama Fruit Juice Bar, New Market

Change ki problems sabse jyada hai.  And due to this our business is down by 50 per cent. Customers offer us Rs 500 note for making small purchases. And we have no option but to ask them to either buy things for the entire amount and if they are not ready, to turn them back. We are using paytm and have also applied for POS machine but for this different bankers charge different commission. So it is still pending.

Deepa Singh Vaishya, Housewife

We came to the bank to withdraw money. They are either giving notes of  Rs 10, 20, of 100. Not of Rs 500 or Rs 1000. Some banks are even giving coins of Rs 10 which are very tough to carry in wallets or small purses. Also, there is another problem with the new notes, especially of Rs 2000. Some shopkeepers refuse to take it saying it’s fake currency after seeing its light weight and colour.

Aamir, a pharmacy student

If we want to withdraw more money then we’ll have to bring big bags because bankers are giving bundles of Rs 50, 20 and 10 notes which we can’t keep in our pockets easily. If I draw, say, Rs 15,000 and they give me Rs 50 notes, it will be next to impossible to stuff them into my pocket. .

Mukesh Yaduvanshi, Coconut water seller

Jabse notebandi hui business bilkul zero ho gaya hai. I am buying coconuts on credit. I don’t know when I will be able to repay my debtors.
