BHOPAL: We often find people complaining about their locality and the problems they are facing but the residents of Suruchi Nagar, Kotra, instead of complaining, have decided to take corrective action themselves and make their society neat, clean and healthy. From repairing the road to planting trees to taking care of the fused street lights, they don’t rely on the ward corporator. They do everything possible themselves.
Recently, the residents of the colony filled a pothole that had become a breeding ground of mosquitoes due to which two members of a family residing in the building had caught dengue. One of the resident said that they even complained about the poor conditions of the road on the CM helpline after bringing it to the notice of the corporator but nothing happened. So they decided to get the repairs done themselves through contributions. The residents feel proud about their society and are happy that they themselves are able to solve their problems.
Kalpana Khandelwal, Resident
“The road was one of the major problems. But now potholes have been filled and mosquitoes would no longer breed in them. And we are pursuing the ward corporator for getting the other works done. Another concern was an auto driver, who kept roaming in the colony, along with a girl. It was after our intervention that they stopped coming here.”
Sunil Dubey, Resident
“The residents here are very active and we have together decided that we will do our bit. I have planted all the saplings here myself because when I shifted here, there were no plants. So I thought of planting trees here. The other residents have also planted many plants in their home to keep the environment healthy. For the pot hole, we called the BMC to dump these pieces of bricks and got this done in front of us.”
