BHOPAL: A political storm has been kicked up by CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s allegation that before Independence, the Scindias, along with the British, had committed atrocities against the people in what is now Bhind district. Chouhan was addressing an election meeting at Singuda village in Ater assembly constituency on Friday. Ater is to elect its new MLA shortly.
Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia was also to campaign in Ater on Friday and the CM’s barb was ostensibly aimed at him. But the problem is that Rajasthan’s chief minister Vasundhararaje Scindia and MP sports minister Yashodhararaje Scindia also come from the same family. And both are BJP leaders.
The Congress has reacted strongly to Chouhan’s statement. Leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Ajay Singh said the CM had insulted Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia. “The BJP is today enjoying the fruits of the hard work done by Rajmata,” he said. Chief spokesperson of the Congress KK Mishra has asked Chouhan to elaborate his views on Vijayaraje, Vasundhararaje and Yashodhararaje. After Chouhan’s statement, Hitesh Vajpayee, chairman of MP Civil Supplies Corporation posted a poem by Subhadhra Kumari Chouhan on the social media, in which she has apparently assailed the Scindias.
