Bhopal: Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has written a letter to a prime minister stating the condition of farmers of the state on Monday.
Scindia stated that farmers are not getting minimum support price for their products and they are forced to stage protests. The state government has killed six farmers in Mandsaur on June 6, the letter said. Since then, till June 29, 42 farmers have committed suicide in the state.
The state government is not paying attention on the farmers’ problems like purchasing seed, fertilizer and other farm items at very high cost. Besides, the farmers are not getting proper price of their products.
He also added that during his tour to various district of the state he had found that farmers are taking loan from societies, money lenders and because they are not getting proper return of their products. Due to non payment and pressure, the farmers are committing suicide.
According to national crime bureau, from 2010 to 2015, 6594 farmers have committed suicide, out of this number around 80 per cent have committed suicide, because they were not able to repay the amount to money lenders.
He stated that the state government is not able to sort out the problem, he made three demands to the PM. He asked to waive off the loan, as Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra have done.
Increase the MSP and to make proper arrangements in mandi, so that the farmers can sell their product freely.
