HOSHANGABAD: Addressing farmers at the ‘Krishi Sansad’ organised at Baikhedi village in Hoshangabad block as part of the ‘Gramodaya Se Bharat Uday’ campaign here on Saturday, principal secretary, transport S.N. Mishra said that the knowledge of the agricultural scientists and the experience of the farmers can together work wonders. He said that farming was not only a means of livelihood for the farmers but also a way of life.
He said that the farmers should choose the crop they want to grow on the basis of the quality of soil, availability of water and local weather conditions. Besides food grains, they should also concentrate on growing horticultural crops as they are less affected by the vagaries of nature.
Among other things, ways of doubling the income of farmers, organic farming, pest and irrigation management, soil health card and scientific methods of storing food grains were discussed at the meet. Seeds of high-yielding varieties of Moong were distributed to 20 farmers while soil health cards were handed over to 10 farmers. Seven girls were given certificates of Ladli Laxmi Yojana.
Mishra said that the government was making all-out efforts for making farming profitable. The farmers were also working hard and as a result the state has won the Krishi Karman Award for the fifth time in a row. He said that unless laboratories of agricultural institutions reach the farm, the productivity cannot increase, adding that the farmers can do poultry farming, sericulture and cattle-rearing for increasing their income. Joint director, agriculture B.L. Billaiya said that two Krishi Raths are moving in each block of the district to reach relevant information to the farmers.
