Bhopal: Billabong High International School, Bhadbhada Road agreed to admit a student after the intervention of MP Commission for Protection of Child Rights, on Monday. The student was refused admission in class 11on the ground that his performance in previous class was not up to the mark.

The school authority had claimed that ICSC norms don’t permit them to admit a student who has received 45 per cent or lower marks in 10th board exam this year. However, the commission found that the school claim was wrong as ICSC has not prescribed any such norms.

The commission also found true the complaint by parents that they are being forced to buy uniform, books and stationery from the outlet at the school. This was one of the nine cases taken up by the commission at its hearing which was chaired by chairman of the commission Raghvendra Sharma along with members Brajesh Chouhan.

Four cases of private schools in the city including Rayon International School, All Saints, Laurel’s Kids School, Bonjure School were also resolved on the say. All the case were related to transfer certificate and admission fee.  An interesting case also came up before the commission where a boy was allotted a girls’school erroneously during lottery undertaken for RTE (right to education).

The school authority denied giving admission to the boy for obvious reason and the case was taken up to the commission. The district education officer said that in the government records, the school is stated to be co-ed so the boy can study there. Any student can get admission because gender doesn’t matter in schools which come through lottery system under RTE, said the officer.

Vikrant Reddy, father of Dev Reddy, a student of Class 11  St. Joseph’s Co-Ed School in Arera colony, also filed a complaint against school management saying that his son was deprived bus facility even when they had paid the bus fare. “We contacted the school related for it but the authority said that they don’t have their own bus. The buses were on contact and so they don’t take money.”

When we contacted the bus operator he claimed that he had not received bus fare from us for last many months, said Reddy, adding that if their issue was not resolved here then they will move court. Total nine cases of private schools in the city were heard. Of these, seven were solved and directives were issued to work out two others. Brajesh Chouhan, member of MP Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
