Bhopal: MP School Vahan Chalak Seva Samiti, a committee of school bus drivers, has decided to end the strike after a meeting with district officials from Thursday. The district officials accepted its demands and gave a month’s time to install required safety equipments in school buses and vans as per Supreme Court’s guidelines.
The members of committee went on a strike on Wednesday charging police and district officials with harassing bus and vans drivers and conductors for having insufficient safety measures in the buses. Further, all the drivers and conductors were required to complete physical and online verification process within the permitted time.
The strike resulted in stopping of more than 8000 buses of city’s schools and colleges in on Wednesday. Parents and students made frantic efforts to make alternative arrangements to send their children to schools. Advocate Akhilesh Pandey whose daughter studies in St Xavier’s School near Bagsewania told Free Press, “Due to strike we had to re-arrange our schedule for dropping and picking of our daughter from the school.
The strike affected us badly as we both work in an office.” Pinky Verma, mother of two sons and a daughter said, “My elder son and daughter were unable to attend Jawahar school in BHEL area as we had to drop our youngest son to Bal Bhawan for his exam.”
ASP (traffic) Mahendra Kumar Jain said, “Police will continue its checking and we are waiting for the directions from the collector office to know the decision taken in the meeting.” ADM Disha Nagvanshi didn’t respond to phone call and phone of Shivkumar Soni, president of committee was not reachable since evening.
