BHOPAL: The discussion on the motion of thanks on Governor’s address witnessed a war of words between chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh. Ajay Singh branded co-operatives minister Vishwas Sarang as a blackmailer. He leveled other allegations against him too. Chouhan said that baseless charges were born out of Singh’s frustration.
When Chouhan said that he knows who is operating mines in Jabalpur and who is dealing in property in Indore, the opposition benches were up on their feet. Tarun Bhanot, MLA from Jabalpur and Jitu Patwari from Indore took strong exception to the statement. Patwari said that the chief minister was threatening Congress MLAs.
“It is not his job to threaten. If he finds something wrong, he should order action”, Patwari said. This provoked the other side and for some time, charges flew thick and fast in the House. Speaker Sitasharan Sharma brokered peace between the two contingents and urged the Congress MLAs to be seated. It was only then the proceedings could resume.
Chouhan later clarified that he was not threatening anyone but added that whosoever breaks the law in the state would have to face the consequences.
