Sapaks, which owes its genesis in SC-ST Act, is contesting assembly elections this time. Although sapaks was constituted as a reaction against the government filing an appeal petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court over reservation in promotion. Prior to elections, a political unit of this organisation was launched in the election arena.
There has been a partial impact of protest against SC-ST Atrocities Act on elections. Although sapaks is contesting on 200 seats but its impact could be seen only on 6 seats.
The reason behind the impact of sapaks on these seats has been the influence of individual candidates.m The candidates of sapaks on three seats have been rebels of the BJP. Their influence is seen on these seats. BJP rebel Malkeet Singh Sandu is contesting from Mungawali seat in Ashoknagar, former MLA Ramesh Khatik is contesting from Karera seat in Shivpuri, BJP former treasurer Ramoram Gupta from Satna and Lata Massi in Betul have made a triangular contest.
Kamlesh Bhandari in Khargone is contesting from sapaks. sapaks is also in the election arena in Rajnagar. Sapaks organisational general secretary Suresh Tiwari said they got recognition as political party quite late. According to Tiwari, despite of this, sapaks has its influence on several seats which would come at the time of election results. He added that despite getting less time, their candidates are performing well.
