SAPAKS Party has at last been registered with the Election Commission of India. However, it sparked another controversy with founder president of the party Lalit Shastri not only questioning ECI’s decision and but also announcing his resolve to move court against it.
The SAPAKS Party received a letter from the ECI on Tuesday confirming its registration as a political party. Expressing happiness over the news, SAPAKS Party president Hiralal Trivedi said that they would now apply for allotment of a symbol for assembly elections. “We will meet the chief electoral officer on Thursday for allotment of symbol to the party,” said Trivedi.
SAPAKS got mired into controversy as soon as it tried to turn into a political party. Its founder president, Lalit Shastri filed a written objection with the ECI, claiming that it was a social organisation and political party on the same name would create confusion.
“The ECI’s decision is tragic. I filed objection but the ECI took ex-party decision which raises question over its integrity. Moreover, the SAPAKS forged an alliance with Sampoorna Samaj Party only to walk out of it the next day. It means they had information about their recognition from the commission,” said Shastri. He said he would approach court against ECI’s decision.
SAPAKS (Samanya Pichhda Alpshankhyak Varg Adhikari Karmchari Sanstha)- the organisation that came into limelight for campaigning against reservation in promotion had decided to convert into a political party after receiving public support. It applied with election commission for registration as a political party on August 29.
The ECI letter had clarified that registration of the party does not entitle it for an exclusive party symbol however; it can be allotted a common symbol available from the list of free symbols with the EC.
