Bhopal: Vegetable prices have increased drastically in the state capital due to shortage in supply in city market. Most of the vegetables are being sold at Rs 80 per kilogram in major market including Bittan Market. Local vendors have attributed the rise in prices to short supply of greens due hails and rain.
Standing crops including vegetables have been damaged in many parts of the state due to unseasonal rains and hail squall. Citing reasons for skyrocketing vegetable prices, Mohammed Saeed Babu Salam, a wholesale supplier at Nav Bahar Sabbji Mandi, said, “ It is because of short supply of vegetables in the market after March 1.
It may be due to hail and rain. But soon the supply will be resumed and things will be back to normal.” Another wholesale supplier Moeen Khan said, “ Price hike is just temporary. Many factors lead to short supply.
Hail and rains have damaged the vegetable in the state to some extent and this has hit the supply. The prices of the vegetables would come down as we are also trying to ensure regular supply.”
