Bhopal: Nationwide farmers’ strike may leave its impact on the menu of mass Iftar ‘Saath-Saath Roza Iftar’ being organised at Iqbal Maidan in the city during Ramadan daily. The 10-day agitation, which began from Friday 1, has hit the supply of essentials including vegetables, fruits, milk and other farm produce.
With fruits and milk diminishing fast and likely to vanish from the market in the coming days, the organisers of the Roza Iftar will soon have to design a new menu looking at the availability of ingredients and products in the market. The farmers have threatened to block supplies during their agitation from June 1 till 10.
Iqbal Maidan Roza Iftar committee has been organising Iftaar party for last one year. As many as 2,000 people, belonging to different religions and communities have been participating in a 10- minute Roza Iftaar daily during Ramzan. The feast menu include dates, fruits and Nameekn, besides different varieties of drinks including Litchi, Mango, Rooh Afza, kerry pana and badam shake are also served to people.
Due to the farmer’s stir, supply of fruits and milk has been hit and in coming days it will get worse, said a concerned functionary. One of the core members of the committee, Iqbal Beg said that the strike definitely affect our mass iftar as out menu is based on fruits and milk.
“We buy fresh fruits daily from Mandi but due to strike it would not be possible anymore. We have only bought 5 quintal watermelon, but it is hard to store milk and all fruits for more days,” said Beg. With no option left, we have decided to change the menu for the Iftar for the days ahead. “We are planning to replace fruits with bakery and fried eatables including cakes, bhajiye, papad etc. We will increase the quantity of these items now. Also, we will discontinue badam shake and kerry pana and instead offer readymade fruits sherbet,” he added
