Bhopal: After Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (BSCDCL) felicitated cycle enthusiasts at a recent workshop, the trend of hiring bicycles under Public Bike Sharing scheme (PBS) seems to be on rise.

Bikes are available 24 x 7 under this scheme. Though PBS has made a small beginning, it seems to be moving forward on steady feet. About seven residents of Danish Nagar have made it their habit to ride bicycles every day after dinner. One of them was felicitated at the workshop conducted by BSCDCL. “Riding bike after dinner is part our routine now. It helps us to digest the food,” said Ravindra Deshmukh. Another rider Gyanendra Pratap Singh said, “We used to take walk together after diner. But ever since we came to know of PBS, we decided to use the facility as we take a round of nearby colonies. Riding together gives us pleasure.”

Rishiraj Yadav, another member of the group, said he goes to workshop on bicycle. Post dinner ride is just a part of it. The ride is good for our health and also helps us digest food,” he remarked. Others in their group – Bhupendra Larisa, Chirag Kothrai, Rakesh Dugaye, Rajesh Dugaye and Ravi – expressed similar views.

“It is a pleasure for us that the public has liked the project,” said Chandramauli Shukla, Bhopal deputy municipal commissioner in-charge of BSCDCL. He said bike facility is available for twenty four hours hence the residents are free to use it as per their convenience.

“Along with felicitating frequent riders, we have also put up their photographs at the docking stations to attract others for the project as riding bicycle is environment-friendly and a health exercise,” he added.
