Bhopal: A Hindi play ‘Mai Ashwathama’ was staged at Shaheed Bhawan Auditorium on Thursday – the second of three-day ‘9th Ekta drama festival’. Scripted by Yadavendra Sharma ‘Chandra,’ and directed by Sumit Dwivedi, the play depicts values of life. Centred on two main and popular characters of the Mahabharata- Dronacharya and Ashwathama, the play also deals with religion, justice and truth. It highlights all the elements which are essential for human needs.
The saga of play revolves around Drupad, a childhood friend of Dronacharya (Dron). After becoming the king of Panchal Kingdom, Drupad promises his poor friend Dron that he will give half of his state to him. But he doesn’t fulfil his promise even he doesn’t recognise him. Dron gets hurt badly after getting such response from his childhood friend. And he takes pledge to take revenge from him.
It was presented Ekta Theatre Group Bhopal. Set, costumes, lights and make-up were used aptly which highlights the moods of the play. Neelesh Singh Sisoudiya as Dronacharya, Sandeep Kumar as Drupad, Sanket Bharat as Ashwathama were in lead roles. Set was designed by Yogesh Sharma while music and make-up by Anil Ansare and Narendra Rajput.
The festival is being organised by Madhya Pradesh Shaskiye Karmchari Rangmach to mark the memory of theatre artist Sanjay Bhoskar. A play ‘Bapu Kaid Mein’ will be staged on Friday.
