Bhopal: The reinstatement of former Mandsaur collector Swatantra Kumar Singh hangs in balance as the proposed farmer agitation is due from June 1. Many believe that the administration is not acting on the matter as it is afraid that it would further trigger the resentment in farmers.
Notably, then Superintendent of police (SP) OP Tripathi and city superintendent of police (CSP) Sai Krishna of Mandsaur are also under suspension till date. The trio were suspended following the incident of firing on farmers in Mandsaur. The incident would be completing its one year on June 6. The incident of firing in Mandsaur is being investigated by a judicial inquiry commission.
A department inquiry is also underway against Singh, despite of the fact that it holds no relevance when a Commission is already enquiring into the incident. Sources say that there is little possibility of reinstatement of any of these officers till the completion of assembly elections.
During farmers’ agitation, Singh was thrashed by the farmers. On the incident of firing he had clarified that he has not given any such orders. Chief secretary BP Singh has taken up the matter of Singhs reinstatement with CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan for a couple of times in a year. But Chouhan is reported to be so annoyed with the former Collector that he was not ready to reinstate him.
