Bhopal: The rare bird like Verditer flycatcher and many other migratory birds were spotted in Barkatullah Campus. The other birds like Green Sandpiper, Little Grebe, Spot billed duck, Copper Smith Barbet, Grey frecolin, Eurasia Moorhehan, Siberian Stonechat, Western Yellow wagtail among others were spotted.
These findings were the outcome of two days birds census in Barkuattullah University, conducted by BU in association with Central India Nature Conservation Society. Verditer flyucatcher is an Old World flycatcher found from the Himalayas through Southeast Asia to Sumatra.
Siberian stonechatIt breeds in temperate Asia and easternmost Europe and winters in the Old World tropics. The western yellow wagtail is a small passerine in the wagtail family Motacillidae, which also includes the pipits and long claws. Member of national wild life board and vice chancellor of BU Prof RJ Rao stressed on promoting biodiversity in BU campus so that BU camps will attract more migratory birds.
Department of Environmental Sciences and Limnology’s Dr Vipin Vyas, and other members joined the census. Society convener Nikhil Raut said, “Verditer flycatcher is rare bird. Similarly, many migratory birds including Western Yellow, Siberian Stonechat flocked to BU campus.
We conducted census of birds which flock to BU Campus. We aim to develop and maintain conducive atmosphere with biodiversity in Campus. It has nice green cover and water bodies which are like paradise for migratory birds. It is our effort to make BU campus for bird lovers.”
