Bhopal: Protests are getting shriller day by day against opening of new slaughterhouse near Kankali Mandir, Raisen Road. On Sunday, farmers and Congress workers jointly took out a rally from Ratibad to Neelbad in protest against the proposed abattoir at Adampur Chhavni. The rally aimed at generating public awareness against the shifting of the slaughterhouse in the vicinity of temple.

A large number of farmers of nearby villagers led by Congress leaders took our foot-march on Sunday demanding the authorities to modernise the existing slaughterhouse and make it hi-tech instead of shifting it to another location

Earlier also, MLA Rameshwar Sharma, leader of Opposition in Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mohammed Saghir and others have raised their voice against shifting of abattoir right from the very beginning. Various religious organisations on August 3 had staged a demonstration against opening of state’s largest slaughterhouse in Bhopal’s Chhawani Adampur.

Just couple of days ago, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration to start the work with the demarcation as land has already been allotted by the state government. March 2018 is dead line set by NGT for the construction of new hi-tech slaughter house. BMC administration has speeded up the work, speaking over this, BMC deputy commissioner Harish Gupta said, “Work order, tendering and other formalities have been completed. We have speeded up the construction work.”

Corporator Amit Sharma, who is against the coming up of the abattoir said, “We will go to every ward and every village to mobile the support over this issue. Today, Congress men and farmers took out rally against it.”

Not happy with the BMC’s decision, Congress leader PC Sharma said, “Slaughterhouse should not be constructed near religious palace of any community. There is lot of land of stud farmhouse where present abattoir is running. Government should develop the existing one into hi-tech instead of shifting it to a new location. It is foolishness on the part of the government to open new hi-tech slaughter house near Kankali Mandir as it would hurt the sentiments of many devotees.”
