Bhopal: While it is encouraging Bhopalites to make Swacch initiative a success, Bhopal Municipal Corporation seems to have no influence on politicians who have been belittling efforts of all. Within a span of four days, two major political parties have left the city’s roads and skyline dotted with illegal political hoardings.

A day after the municipal body cleared the city of these illegal hoardings put up by a political party, new ones were put up across the city, by rival political party. Every time a political leader comes to the city huge hoardings are put up illegally along the roads welcoming him. The political parties never take permission from the civic authorities for such hoardings.

For civic body the hoardings and billboards are source of revenue generation, however, the illegal hoardings which are temporary in nature are put up for a day-or two and BMC gets no revenue from these. Rather, it has to press its staff to clear the hoarding and posters.

Enthused Congress workers have donned city roads with dozens of hoardings on Tuesday to welcome Kamal Nath on his maiden visit to the city after he was made the state party president. A day after, the BMC pressed its squad to clear the streets of the hoarding, however, very next day hoardings and posters welcoming BJP national president Amit Shah mushroomed all across the city.

Shah is scheduled to visit city on Friday and the state leaders have planned a rousing welcome to their party chief, and dotting the roads with welcome posters and hoardings is one of their ways greet their party chief. The BMC had once ordered an inquiry into the gantries which were allegedly found to be more in numbers than permitted by the civic body for the city.

RTI activist Ajay Patidar alleged that BMC is working under the under influence of political parties which is resulting in revenue loss. The civic body should recover the money from these parties without any fear, he added. Deputy commissioner Harshit Tiwari, in-charge of hoardings said that the matter has come to our knowledge. We remove illegal hoardings whenever we receive information about it, he added.
