BHOPAL: The police department will make special arrangements to maintain law and order in view of celebrations to be held on New Year eve in the city. Police patrolling will be stepped up on night of December 31. The police that plan to issue guidelines for hotels, restaurants will step up vigil on roads to keep check on drunkards and eve teasers.

Deputy inspector general of police Santosh Singh said that police officials will convene a meeting shortly with organisers and owners of hotels and other joints where New Year celebrations have been planned. “Organisers will be held accountable if anything goes wrong,” he said.

Many organisers switch off lights when clock strikes 12 in midnight. People present in the party take advantage of darkness and grope women around them. This year, police have asked organised to avoid this act.

Similarly, party organisers are being directed to ensure security of visitors by deploying bouncers or private security guards. This is being asked in view of the fact that two groups often pick up fights with each other during celebrations as they go berserk. This disrupts celebrations and spoils mood of others.

The organisers have been told to obtain liquor license without which they will be fined. The hotels with swimming pools have been told to host party at safe distance.
