Bhopal: Gas activist Abdul Jabbar and others are going to file a review petition in Supreme Court demanding action against collector and SP posted during gas tragedy. Talking to media, Jabbar said that the apex court had turned down their appeal petition in which then collector Moti Singh and SP Swaraj Puri were accused of helping chairman of union carbide, Warren Anderson flee.
“A case was filed in court of CJM Bhopal in June 2010 when several employees of union carbide were sentenced for two years. Later High Court refused to entertain the matter in August 2019,” said Jabbar. He said that the same was challenged in the apex court in January 2019 but was turned down.
The review petition would pray, the decision of CJM court is still pending in district and sessions court in Bhopal while the culprits of the world’s worst industrial disaster are roaming free, he added. Shahnawaz Khan of Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sanghthan said that gas victims have been relentlessly fighting for justice for past 34 years.
The apex court has accepted the petition related to revised compensation on January 28, 2019 that was pending since 2004. “I hope that state and central government present the case of gas victims with full seriousness in court,” said Jabbar. The gas activist said that if the revised compensation is accepted then gas victims will get additional Rs 2.50 lakh.
