A 17-year-old girl who was apprehensive about not faring well in her exam ended her life by hanging herself, on Monday night.  She was appearing in class XII board exams. Her father Habeeb Khan is a teacher in the same school and Mahak was eldest among three sisters. According to SHO of Ashoka Garden Umesh Yadav, the deceased Mahak Khan lived in Ashok Vihar Colony. She was a student of class 12 in a private school.

Her kin told police that Mahak was very good in her studies and she was hopeful of getting a rank in the district merit list of class X board exams; however she was allegedly keeping tensed as she did not fare well in her Mathematics paper. She was also worried about the Chemistry subject paper which was due to be held on March 28 as she was not good in this subject and didn’t have good preparations for it.

Her father also counselled her, to no avail and on Monday at around 9:30 pm when her mother was cooking food in the kitchen and her both younger sisters were watching TV, she went to her room, locked the door and hanged self to death from the ceiling fan. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died during treatment. An FIR has been registered with Ashoka Garden police station.
