A high octane drama was witnessed on Monday outside chamber of Raisen district returning officer as a disgruntled former Congress MLA was forcibly stopped from filing nomination as an independent candidate. Congress leader Rajkumar Patel along with supporters reached the office of district returning officer to file the nomination as an independent candidate from Vidisha-Raisen Lok Sabha seat. Patel, a former minister had been seeking ticket from the seat, however the party had fielded Shailendra Patel. Annoyed over ticket denial, Patel along with his number of supporters reached office of district returning officer to file his nomination as independent candidate.
As the information reached state capital, Chief Minister Kamal Nath immediately rushed youth welfare minister Jeetu Patwari from Bhopal to stop Patel. Patwari and MLA Kunal Choudhary reached the office and forcedly prevented Patel from filing the papers. The eyewitnesses claimed that as Patel was adamant to file the nomination, the two party leaders grabbed him tightly to prevent him from going inside the office. Choudhary while talking to Free Press claimed that they have convinced Patel against contesting as independent candidate. He has given his consent to work for party and ensure victory of its candidate, he added.
