Bhopal: A day after its inauguration, the multi-level paid parking at Sant Hirdaram Nagar could not attract even a single two-wheeler on Thursday. To ease the parking woes in the commercial town, Mayor Alok Sharma and MLA Rameshwar Sharma had inaugurated the much needed multi-level parking on Wednesday.

The facility can accommodate as many as 206 two-wheelers and 289 cars. On the inaugural day,  6 four-wheelers were seen parked inside in the complex, while not a single two-wheeler rider show any interest in using the facility. On the very next day of its inauguration, the parking facility remained vacant, while a good number of vehicles were seen parked on roads and the surrounding areas. Not ready to pay the charges, the two-wheeler riders and motorists are refraining from using the allotted parking space.

Parking fee for the two-wheelers have been fixed at Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 15 for first two hours, four hours and up to 24 hours respectively. While, four-wheeler motorists would be charged Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 30, respectively for the said period.

The entire town, which is known for its bustling commercial activities, is dotted haphazardly parked vehicles. The shoppers as well as the traders and shopkeepers have been parking their vehicles at any available place.  Unsystematically parked vehicles has been leading to traffic snarls and causing inconvenience to commuters. To end the parking woes and ease the traffic, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) had come up the multi-level parking facility, however, the response as of now is not very encouraging.

BMC’s other three multi-level parking city’s busy markets too have received tepid response.  The multi-level parking at Ibrahimpura and Chatori Gali remian mostly remain vacant, while vehicles could be seen parked outside the facility. Assuring that action against errant drivers would be taken, additional superintendent of police (ASP) traffic Arvind Dube said that the vehicles found parked at undesignated spots would be towed.
