Chief Minister Kamal Nath has announced in the House that a Cabinet committee will be constituted to examine the Central government’s provision of 10 per cent reservation to financially weak from general category. Leader of opposition Gopal Bhargava, raising the issue during Question Hour, said several states have already applied the provision after constitutional amendment by the Central government.
Bhargava said financially weak general category unemployed people are committing suicides. For this ten per cent seats have been increased and reservation to any section of the society has not been reduced. MLA Narottam Mishra said it was conspiracy to divert the issue. Mishra claimed that general category people were facing discrimination. Mishra demanded Nath to set a time-limit for the Committee’s submission of report. Mishra said it should be implemented before code of conduct comes into effect.
Bhargava has also written several letters to Nath. He asked him to get a debate on the issue done in the House. According to the political experts BJP has been demanding extension of provision of reservation to financially weak general category candidates before Lok Sabha elections as the party allegedly lost assembly polls because of anger against SC/ST Atrocities Act.
