Five lakh population of Kolar satellite township of Bhopal is facing water crisis as residents totally dependent either on private tankers or on tube-wells. Civic body is not in condition to ensure regular water supply. Right from beginning water supply has been major issue in Kolar area.
Ex-Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had laid the foundation stone for Kerwa water project under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and medium Towns (UIDSSMT). Mayor-in-council (MiC) of Bhopal municipal corporation had okayed an allocation of Rs 52 crore for the Kerwa water supply project.
The aim was to ensure piped water supply by March 2016 in all 62 colonies, 56 slums clusters and 45 villages of Kolar. An intake well of capacity of 29 MLD was constructed with 70 km pipe lines of 500-600mm diameter. But problems like lying pipe lines and allocation of connections has delayed the project. Now the local people representatives maintain that it will be taken c are of after general elections. Kolar and Bairagarh come under Huzur Vidhan Sabha constituency. The said Rs 52 crore water supply project was an intitative of MLA Rameshwar Sharma.
MLA (Huzur) Rameshwar Sharma said, “Kerwa water project still has a lot of problems and it will be taken care after general elections. Right from beginning, Kolar residents are facing water crisis. So I had taken initiative for execution of Kerwa water project to draw or siphon water from Kerwa Dam for pipe water supply to residents. But it has not been completed. The project keeps getting delayed due to frequent elections.”
Kolar water supply engineer Ajay Malviya said, “It is true that Kolar pocket is facing acute water crisis at present. But much has been done and rest of the work will be completed soon. We are also very much concerned over water supply in Kolar region. Work is being carried on at war footing for water supply from Kerwa Dam to entire Kolar region.”
