BHOPAL: Opposition parties are protesting the power tariff hike by the state government on Saturday. Aam Admi Party demonstrated at Jinsi Square while the Congress demanded rolling back the increased tariff, on Sunday.

Congress state president Arun Yadav alleged the state government had increased the electricity rate up to 12 per cent for farmers. “The government claims that it is farmer-friendly, but the power tariff hike tells a different story,” Yadav said.

“The government has hiked the tariff to provide profits to Ambani and Adani. It has not even spared the BPL connection holders,” he alleged.

He demanded the government rolled back the price, or else the party would launch a state-wide agitation against the government.

State coordinator of AAP Alok Agarwal asked the government claimed MP was producing surplus power, but why was it then imposing burden on the common consumer?

“On the one hand the government is selling cheap electricity to other states and on other hand it is increasing price on domestic, industrial use up to 8 per cent and for farmers 12 per cent,” Agarwal alleged.
