Bhopal: The online exams for DCA (Diploma in computer Applications) conducted at study centers have been suspended amid launch of inquiry into main activities of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Mass Communication (MCU) since 2003.

The online examination for DCA students was conducted at more than 2000 study centers across the state. There have been several complaints about the study centers as well that VC Kuthiala and director of study center had given permission even to several centers that were running on papers only. The team that inspected and verified the study centers too will be under inquiry committee’s lens.

Resignation of VC Jagdish Upasne was accepted immediately the change of regime. Later registrar Sanjay Dwivedi was removed from the post and Deepak Sharma, director of study centers was sent back to his parent department from deputation.

‘Online exam for benefit of pvt company’

A private company was given contract, allegedly throwing all rules to the wind. About a hundred study center franchise owners had protested in MCU recently complaining against the malpractices and irregularities in the online examination. “The online examination is being conducted only for benefit of a private company that fails the students deliberately to conduct re-exam and charge fees from thousands of students,” said the memorandum given by the association of study centers during their protest last week.

University authorities had taken the complaint seriously and passed the order for manual exams for the students cancelling the old order. Complete tenure and dealings of private company that was assigned the work of conducting online exams will be probed, said a university official.

Kuthiala tenure under scanner

There have been complaints of corruption including favourtism and money exchanging hands in allotment of study centers. This will be part of inquiry conducted by the state government that has to submit the report within fifteen days. An official not authorised to speak to media said that university has a provision of opening study centers across the state.

According to university Act study centers can be opened on a population of more than 40,000. However, during Kuthiala’s tenure this rule was bent and study centers were given permission at free will. Allotment was given to study centers who failed in first attempt though the decision was challenged at several platforms. Since then there have been several complaints and inquiry committee too has it on its top priority.
