Boy had slipped into nullah while playing when he was attacked by pack of dogs
BHOPAL: A pack of stray dogs mauled to death one-and-half year old boy, who slipped into a nullah while playing at Ghatwali Gali, PGBT College on Thursday. Stray dogs, who had entered into the nullah for meat pieces dumped by shops owners, attacked the boy the moment he felled into it.
According to Gautam Nagar police, Shaikh Raja, son of Shaikh Imran, fell down into the nullah while playing in front of his house. Herd of stray dogs attacked the child as he fell down in nullah. Hearing the boy’s shrieks passersby rushed to his rescue however by that time the child was badly bitten and was profusely bleeding. The boy was snatched away from jaws of the dogs and rushed to hospital. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. Investigating Officer SI Karamvir Singh said that at around 7.00 am the child was playing in front of the hut adjacent to the nullah. There is no fence to cover the nullah. A number of stray dogs were looking for waste meat pieces in the nullaha when the child slipped into it. The dogs attacked the boy and bit him severely. An elderly person, who spotted the child falling into nullah, raised alarm.
However, nobody took notice of his call and it was only hearing the cries of the child people rushed to is rescue, informed Singh. The rescuers rushed the profusely bleeding child to the nearest hospital, however the doctors declared the child dead, police said.
Dozens of agitated residents staged protest against the apathy of the civic body to check the menace of stray dogs. Aggrieved people even called up BMC’s health depart officer Rajiv Saxena but he did not respond. They alleged that despite repeated complaints Bhopal Municipal Corporation authorities failed to act.
