BHOPAL: On Friday, BMC had a tough time in dousing a fire which flared up in the highly congested lanes in New Kabadkhana at ward no-17 early on Friday. In fire broke out in early in the morning in a godown, old tyres worth lakhs of rupees were gutted. Not only this, it spread to adjoining truck repairing outlets and tyres shops.

As it is a commercial area there are hardly any residential premises nearby so no causality was reported due to fire. The reason behind fire is still not known but short circuit is believed to be the cause behind it. Fire station in-charge Rameshwar Neel said,“On getting information about the incident at 5:30 am, we swung into action. It was a really uphill task for us to negotiate the congested lanes in New Kabadkhana. Somehow, we managed to reach the spot and launched an operation. We even roped in fire fighters from police department.

Nearly 30 fire fighters were pressed into service. We could prevent the fire from spreading into the adjacent paints shops and controlled the situation before it could become worse.” BMC Zone-incharge Alamgir Mohammed said, “Out first target was to control the fire anyhow. It was early in the morning. We faced a lot of problems in negotiating highly congested roads and lanes to reach the spot. Thick smoke was billowing from godown and other shops. As the godown contained rubber tyres so we had a hard time in dousing the rubber fire.” In the past too, district administration had faced same problems in dousing the fire in major fire incidents including fire at three-storey Polythene godown on Jan 19, 2019 and fire in 7 building and plastic factory on October 25, 2016.
