BHOPAL: Nurses in hospitals of medical colleges of the state on Tuesday held a symbolic protest by taking mass leave to press their demands. Demanding salary appraisal and six other demands which included separate rules for appointment of nurses, grade-2 class for nurses, payment of salaries of leaves taken for protests in 2010 and 2011, CPF deduction and payment of Rs 4,500 to intern nurses as stipend.

The protesting nurses were also divided as the autonomous nurses did not take part in the protest and continued to work at the hospital. All over the state similar protest was witnessed. Protesting nurses took collective leave. Directorate of medical education issued a notice for the hospitals to make prior arrangements, so that the patients did not have to suffer and also said that the department has taken into notice the demands of the nurses and soon they will be discussed in the committee meeting.

The autonomous nurses said that they don’t support the protest because the senior nurses behave badly with the juniors and that they will not let patients be affected because of the protest. Nearly 300 nurses protested in state medical colleges.
