Bhopal: Nodal departments told to take effective steps to check accidents, fatalities

BHOPAL: Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, chairman, Abhay Manohar Sapre has instructed the nodal departments to make substantial and effective efforts for road safety to reduce the number of road accidents and deaths.

Participating in the virtual meeting, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains said that effective action in respect of road safety will be ensured at the state level at the earliest.

Action plan regarding Covid-19 was also discussed in the meeting. In view of road safety, deliberations at length on high-way patrolling, children school education, training on road safety for engineers and road safety staff, installation of SLD Device and implementation of New Motor Vehicle Act took place in the meeting.

In the virtual meeting, a presentation on action taken till now, related to road safety was also made. In the presentation, action taken against traffic violators, road accidents happened during lockdown period, action plan for unlocking during corona pandemic, future action plan for nodal departments, improvement and action under road safety, improvement in black spots by identifying them, road safety audit, crash barrier, rumble strips, sign boards and future plan were covered.

Information was given by the urban administration department about the traffic management system to be set up, public transport company, rectification of black spot and awareness campaign.

Information was given by the health department about the ambulance operated by it. Similarly, the Transport department gave information about the automatic driving test centre, automated vehicle fitness centre, vehicle location tracking, speed limit device, e-challan system and awareness campaign.

Information about making students aware of road safety was given in the meeting by the School Education department.

Members of the committee DGP Vivek Johri, ACS Health Mohammad Suleman, ACS Home Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, ADG PTRI D.C. Sagar and officers of other nodal departments attended the meeting.
